post-racing rowing

I was thinking that from November until say February... or until we change our minds, we could have "casual" rowing. Three scheduled practices a week in which we can scull or sweep depending on the number of people who show up - practice is not mandatory. Personally, I'd like to get some sculling in at least once on a weekday, and I'd like us to try to get in the four on Saturdays.

I suggested Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 5:00 PM and Saturdays... sometime between 9 and 11 AM as a start time. Whenever the boat is available. We can aim for 10 AM.

Cassi, Ree, Jenny, Beth... Do these days times generally agree with you? Do you have another suggestion for days and or times?

Aimee and Sarah, do you want to row with us?

Once we nail down what days of the week we are going, I'm thinking we'll have a weekly post here on Mondays for everybody to say whether or not they will be there for each practice of the week. Again, if you have a better suggestions, please suggest it.

With all that said. I plan on rowing Tuesday, Wendesday and Saturday of this week. Do you? BTW - Saturday is the Henley-on-the-Hooch event. See the next post.

Fight in the dog

No, this is not in reference to the GA Bulldogs.

Fight in the Dog is a blog dedicated to collegiate lightweight rowing. Though we are not collegiate, we have been mentioned. Check it out...

Also, there is some commentary on our Charles race, but no specific mention...

see that medal over on the right?

to quote S. Schwegman, "That's right N.C. State. Eat-it."
Graciousness is overrated.

Open Items

Open Item #3 - Yeah. Practice on Sunday... didn't work out so well. Thanks for being there.

Open Item #5 - Practices this week:
->Wednesday 6:30 AM at Stone Mountain. Jenny, Cassi, Shelly, Sarah and Meg will cox
->Thursday 5:00 (5:15) PM at ARC. Shelly, Cassi, Aimee, Ree and Beth will cox

Open Item #6 - We will de-rig and load on Thursday after the row. ARC is not taking a trailer. I'm currently trying to get space on the GA State trailer.

I haven't had any coffee. I apologize for the lack of wit.

Items #3, #5, #6, #7 - a rebuttal

Item #3 - a recap:
We are having practice on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Everyone but Ree can make it (sorry). Aimee and Sarah can have a dance-off for stroke seat.

Item #5 - a revisiting:
Monday at 5 PM. That seems to work for everyone except Aimee and Ree.

New suggestion - Thursday morning at Emory, at 6:30 AM. Aimee and Beth will not be able to make it, but Ree will.
Alternate suggestion - Thursday evening at ARC at 5 PM. Jenny will not be able to make it, but Ree and Beth will.

Item #6 - a reconsideration:
If we go Thursday evening for practice (see Item #5), we can de-rig then. Otherwise we may have to make a seperate trip to the river either on Thursday or Sunday.

Item #7 - a renouncement:
red·neck n. Offensive Slang
1. Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
2. A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude.
hick n. Informal
1. A person regarded as gullible or provincial: “New Yorkers had a horrid way of making people feel like hicks” (Louis Auchincloss). adj.
2. Provincial; unsophisticated: a hick town.

7 items, 7 days

Items for consideration:

Item #1 - We do not need to load the boat today. See you in Chattanooga.

Item #2 - When we get an idea of when Ree will arrive in Chattanooga (long story), we will call each other about weighing in together.

Item #3 - We need to unload the boat on Sunday. See Item #4.

Item #4 - Can we gather enough people to have practice on Sunday? I'm going to suggest 3:00 PM as a rig/practice time. Everybody comment whether or not you can be there or suggest an alternative practice time.

Item #5 - Practice next week. I'm going to suggest the same practice times next week as we had this week:
-> on-your-own erg/single/ddr/whatever
-> Tuesday, 4:15 PM at ARC
-> Wednesday, 5:00 PM at ARC
Ree is out. Sarah and/or Aimee, can you fill in for these practices? Beth, can you make these? Remember, this is our last week of practices.

Item #6 - we will need to load the trailer again. I will see if I can arrange for us to de-rig & load on Wednesday as we did this week and then have the other team re-rig on Sunday.

Item #7 - Please answer the following question so that I know you read the entire post: Is my heritage Redneck or Hick? Discuss.
